Our Mission

BASE is a not-for-profit membership organization dedicated to empowering and
teaching youth, enriching families, helping those in need, and unifying urban communities against social injustice.

Programs

Brothers Alliance for Social Empowerment has developed a youth mentoring program to pair children, ages 5 to 12, with caring, responsible adult mentors. Despite the importance of mentorship for youth, one in three children report never having an adult mentor. In partnership with families and local schools, our trained mentors will provide one-on-one and group virtual meetings, helping children develop academically and socially. After-School

BASE is currently developing a new type of after-school experience for children of all ages. Our diverse staff is qualified and certified to provide homework assistance, active play, and technology instruction. However, the core of our program aims to instill a sense of community pride and a drive to help others. Students will learn leadership skills, strong values, and respect for others through social activities that reinforce the big and small ways they can make an impact in their communities.

Giving Back

We want to be a link in the chain of a new safety net, one that helps black and Hispanic communities throughout New York City meet their basic and aspirational needs. We regularly assess community needs and provide help where we can, including raising money for Covid-19 emergency assistance, giving scholarships to high school students, providing free school supplies for children, and giving free toys to children during the holidays. But our communities need more and we are developing new programs to fill the gap, including job training and youth mentoring.

Family Support

Strong families make strong communities. We work in partnership with government agencies and other community groups to provide free and low-cost skill-building programs and refer families to the resources they need. We are developing domestic violence workshops for men and women, mentoring programs for teens, parenting workshops, and group counseling services for families in crisis.
